The Unwise Men

Who are these three unwise men, travelling East in a battered old Astra?

IMG_7672Michael Roberts: The instigator of this mad idea, Mike has somehow managed to get his employers to give him a 12 month sabbatical to go have “the experience of a lifetime”. During the first three months or so of which he has also somehow managed to convince his mates to drive to Mongolia with him. This apparent skill in convincing others to do things should come in handy when dealing with officials across the globe. An engineer and programmer by trade he will be thrown far outside his comfort zone, but his ability to roll with the punches and make decisions on the fly will be invaluable for this adventure. Once back in Europe, Mike will be jetting off to South Korea, then to shores unknown. When that happens he will continue the story at 1unwiseman.

vard profileChristopher ‘Vard’ Vardon: Unlike the other two on the team, Vard has working knowledge of how to fix a car and is therefore designated the role of mechanic. A veteran of European Banger Rallies, Vard has some experience with trips of this nature, but never anything quite so ambitious. By day Vard traverses the country working as an electrical engineer installing audio visual equipment. By night… Well he also tends to end up doing the same thing. What he lacks in height he more than makes up for with his excellent photography skills, driving experience and chirpy disposition.

jon profileJonathan Mantle: Jon is the seasoned traveler of the group having spent the majority of his time since graduating traveling the planet. After being in the UK for nearly a year, he thinks it is “definitely time for another adventure”. Jon currently works for Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, although is also highly trained in watching daytime TV and drinking his way through his parents’ fantastic wine. While his inexplicably detailed knowledge of parasites is unlikely to be useful on the journey his confidence and rationality are likely to be fundamental to the success of the trip. Tales from some of Jon’s previous wanderings can be found at the bloggingbackpacker.
